experience

Work that stands up where decisions matter.

Our experience spans governance, infrastructure delivery, and kaupapa‑rich environments where decisions carry weight and outcomes endure. We work alongside organisations in complex contexts — where clarity, cultural intelligence, and accountability matter — supporting decisions and delivery that stand up over time.

  • ĀTEA provided governance advisory support to Te Tāpui Atawhai (Auckland City Mission) to strengthen how its commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi was expressed in governance practice.

This included trusted advisory support to the Chief Executive, Chair, and Board, alongside cultural intelligence benchmarking and the development of an agreed capability uplift plan to guide progress over time.

ĀTEA also supported the Board’s appointment strategy, including panel participation, enabling the introduction of its first Māori board members. This contributed to the achievement ofstrong balance of Māori representation at Board level, strengthening governance alignment with the Mission’s kaupapa and the communities it serves.

  • ĀTEA facilitated mahi with multiple hapū to support the development of infrastructure capability required to meet council procurement expectations for hapū‑led marine management.

This work strengthened collective readiness by aligning systems, clarifying roles, and enabling coordinated approaches across hapū. It supported confident engagement with council procurement processes while remaining grounded in tikanga and local context.

As a result, hapū were better positioned to participate in and lead delivery in ways that reflected both procurement requirements and their own aspirations.

  • ĀTEA provided project management and advisory support across the Trust’s whenua and asset holdings, supporting clear and informed decisions about their future use and stewardship.

This included feasibility assessment for the restoration of the Queen Victoria Māori Girls’ School site, exploration of opportunities for educational re‑instatement, and advisory input across commercial property and portfolio management.

The mahi strengthened the Trust’s ability to consider how taonga assets could be protected, activated, and sustained over time — balancing cultural significance, community aspiration, and long‑term viability.

  • ĀTEA supported fundraising, feasibility, project planning, and delivery for Stage One of the Te Tii Marae Development, including project management of the restoration of the 100‑year‑old Whare Tupuna, Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1835.

This mahi brought together multiple generations of the hapū — from early planning and design through to delivery — including the restoration of whakairo and tukutuku that now define the Whare Tupuna.

Grounded in ahi kā, this project reflects a deeply personal and collective commitment to the protection and renewal of a significant cultural asset.

The outcome extends beyond the built environment — strengthening connection, shared purpose, and intergenerational continuity within the hapū.

  • ĀTEA provided governance reset and organisational infrastructure advisory support to Ngā Hapū ki Waitangi, strengthening structure, role clarity, and readiness for cultural monitoring services.

This mahi focused on establishing fit‑for‑purpose governance arrangements, strengthening organisational systems, and aligning operational capability with external regulatory and procurement expectations.

The support enabled Ngā Hapū ki Waitangi to engage confidently with councils, infrastructure providers, and development processes — while holding their role as kaitiaki with clarity and authority.

As a result, Ngā Hapū ki Waitangi strengthened their ability to deliver culturally grounded monitoring services through systems that are credible, robust, and aligned with kaupapa Māori.
